                                              Tet Holiday in Vietnam

Tet Holiday, also known as the Lunar New Year, is the most important traditional festival in Vietnam. It usually takes place between late January and early February and marks the beginning of a new year according to the lunar calendar. For Vietnamese people, Tet is not simply a long holiday but a meaningful occasion to reflect on the past year and welcome new hopes for the future.

                  Banh Chung

Banh chung is one of the most traditional and meaningful foods during Tet Holiday in Vietnam. It is made from sticky rice, mung beans, pork, and wrapped carefully in green dong leaves. The square shape of banh chung represents the earth, showing gratitude to nature and ancestors. In many families, making banh chung is not only about food but also about togetherness. Family members often gather to prepare ingredients, wrap the cakes, and stay up late to boil them. The smell of banh chung cooking over the fire creates a warm and unforgettable Tet atmosphere.

               Lucky Money (Li Xi)

Lucky money, known as li xi, is a popular Tet tradition, especially for children. It is usually given in red envelopes, which symbolize good luck, happiness, and prosperity. Adults give lucky money to children and elderly people as a way to send good wishes for the new year. Although the amount of money is not important, the meaning behind it is very special. Receiving li xi makes children feel excited and joyful, while giving lucky money brings happiness and hope for a fresh start.

                          Tet Market

Tet markets play an important role in creating the lively atmosphere of the Lunar New Year. Before Tet, streets and markets become crowded with people buying flowers, decorations, food, and gifts. Common items at Tet markets include peach blossoms, apricot blossoms, kumquat trees, red envelopes, and traditional snacks. The colorful stalls, cheerful voices, and festive music make Tet markets very lively and energetic. Visiting a Tet market is not only for shopping but also for enjoying the joyful spirit of Tet and welcoming the new year.

Cleaning and Decorating the House

Before Tet Holiday, families clean and decorate their houses to welcome a new beginning. This activity is believed to remove bad luck from the old year and bring good fortune in the new one. Red and gold decorations, calligraphy, and lanterns are commonly used to create a warm and festive atmosphere. Cleaning the house together also helps family members feel closer and more connected before Tet arrives.

Peach Blossoms and Apricot Blossoms

Flowers play an important role during Tet Holiday. In the North of Vietnam, peach blossoms are very popular, while apricot blossoms are commonly seen in the South. These flowers symbolize luck, prosperity, and hope for a fresh start. Many families display flowers in their living rooms to make their homes more beautiful and lively during Tet.
